Two 800 Pound Gorillas and White Rock
We've been asked many times now, "How does it feel to start a new company during this economy?" Our answer is always something like "it's great but very challenging". That answer isn't intended to be as boring as it sounds but we can't fake it. Sure, we could have picked a better time to start but the time picked us--we didn't pick it. As the creators of the NeverFlat™ technology used in the best-selling basketball in the US, it would have been perfectly reasonable to sit back and take it easy. At the time, Primo Sport was pure bootstrap--no capital, no infrastructure and no strategy. We had no choice but to license that technology. Since then we've grown up a little bit--but not too much--and we have seen a terrific opportunity for new technologies in soccer. We had no choice and in a little over year we have been able to commercialize innovative products, enter into strategic partnerships, create customer service and fulfillment capabilities. As the recent ad campaign for Southwest Airlines says "It's On". We'll for us, it is on. All those things were part of the 'great' as we respond.
The 'challenging' aspect relates to historic economic upheaval, shifting national priorities and continued uncertainty in consumer spending. Mostly for small business that translates into that fact that it's damn hard to get funding. Our competition is pretty daunting too-Nike, adidas and a host of other cool companies. Some industries have one 800-pound gorilla--ours has two! We have a long way to go until we can even be considered the White Rock to Coke and Pepsi. But that's the fun part.
Primo Sport will never be Nike, adidas or Under Armour but at some stage in their life cycle they were like us. Those companies dominate television and events to an extent that is mind-numbing. They are now the old, established brands fueled by huge marketing budgets. We are building our company for the enthusiasts, players and supporters who have soccer in their blood. Our mission is to improve the products you play with through innovation and science.

Primo Sports
There's no doubt in my mind that Primo will make it big...Primo products are well engineered, great looking, and value priced...Beyond that, there is the opportunity create a "mystique" around the brand, perhaps even a certain "hipness", that will appeal to those who want to be different, yet are not willing to sacrifice quality and performance...Stay the course...Great things will happen...
